10/31 - want to try super-charging your bait?

HERE'S A CHEAP WAY OF TRYING OUT A OXYGEN SYSTEM FOR YOUR LIVE WELL.

EBAY - DISPOSABLE O2 BOTTLE REGULATOR - LINK

JUST ADD SOME TUBING AND A QUALITY AIR STONE, AND A FEW DISPOSABLE BOTTLES OF OXYGEN FROM HOME DEPOT AND YOU'RE IN.

I HAVE ALL THAT, AS A ""BACK-UP"" ON MY BOAT ALSO.

IF YOU WANT TO TRY SUPER CHARGING YOUR BAIT, LIKE LIVE SHRIMP.

SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO FULL BORE.

EVERYTHING CAN BE FOUND RIGHT ON EBAY. BUT BUY THE O2 BOTTLES LOCALLY.

THE DISPOSABLE BOTTLES WILL LAST A DAYS FISHING, IF YOU USE THE REGULATOR JUST CRACKED OPEN TO PERCOLATE A FINE MISTING OF TINY BUBBLES.

OF COURSE A SERIOUSLY QUALITY ""CERAMIC"" DIFFUSER / AIR STONE IS BEST AND PRODUCES THE SMALLEST FINEST BUBBLES. WHILE THOSE CHEAP $2.00 AIR STONES MAKE BIG BUBBLES.

THE FINER THE AIR BUBBLES THE BETTER. THAT'S HOW IT WORKS. DISSOLVING  THE O2 INTO THE WATER MUCH BETTER.

THIS VERSUS A CHEAP BUBBLER

BUT, IF YOU'RE GOING ON A BUDGET, A LESSER AIR DEFUSSER WILL WORK. FOR A TRY-OUT.

"JETTYWOLF LIVE" - Capt Dave discusses the possible unknown details of reserving your day on the water, out of Jacksonville, Florida, after October 1st.

Which is his BEST Inshore-Inlet-Near-Coastal fishing time of year in Jacksonville, Florida.

The temperature will be much cooler, the fishing is better inshore. The species more diverse. And it's the time of year "he lives for".

The biggest clue is on his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/captdavessp...
when we're wearing a jacket, or a sweatshirt. Fall, thru Spring.
Oct. thru April is #1 inshore fishing in N.E. Florida!

"JETTYWOLF LIVE" -

10/23/2017 fishing with Bob "the Traveler". One of my regular customers. We both decided to go north of the St. Johns River and fish the Nassau River area, west of Amelia Island. WHY? Saltier water! The St. Johns River has been very fresh, yes since the passing of Hurricane Irma (which passed just west of Jacksonville, Fl coming north from the south. The "land based" storm dumped loads of rain, and that rain eventually makes it's way into the St. Johns River.

Plus, there's no ship, tug, or even boat traffic in that area. Which makes for a VERY pleasant day, "comparatively". Yes, a lot of Speckled Trout were 14" rather than 15-20 inches. But we both caught Trout everywhere we went but one spot. The action was good, and we ALWAYS have loads of fun.

10/25 - FIRST SERIOUS COLD MORNING, for us.

Today, the first real COLD day of the year. The 20 knot winds didn't help.

Well, I have to say fishing has been tough in the river where I go. So on Monday the 23rd, Bob "the Traveler" Johnson and I ventured north to get away from the St. Johns river.

We went to the Nassau river, a 18 mile ONE WAY ride!!!

Which goes against ever thing I stand for. But, with it being hard to find a Croaker bite, on these rising tides that I've had to fish every day. I guess you could say it was well worth it.

Needless to say, "You'll see it it in the video coming soon". When I get a chance to do the 8 hrs of editing.

Tuesday, I had two guys and we went to the Jetties. And couldn't buy a bite other than a bunch of tiny Croakers that were 4 inches long. We did have a big pull down on a 1/2 Croaker I threw out as cut bait. But that was it. At noon we packed it in.

So, what's the moral of the story?  I guess a 18 mile run one way to actual salty water up in the Nassau River and sound.

We had Trout everywhere we went but one spot. LOADS of small fish, with just 7 keepers to 20+ inches. You'll see in the video, my new livewell system.
And it works great!

Today had parents and two little girls. Super cutey pies. We fished all around Mayport for just a handful of Croakers, all caught by the 12 year old, who was the Hot Rod of the morning. While dad and I struggled.

Here's what was going on over at old Atlantic Ship Yard. Pretty cool!

Just finished up 4 days. And have Thursday off and back at in for 4 more days.
I guess this could mean a lot of trips to the gas station since I now only have a 60 gallon tank in the boat and having to do 36 mile round trips each day, to find BITES!

10/18 - SHE'S ALMOST A TEENAGER.....

CHEERS.......we've been thru a lot together in your 11 years.
Born into a unstable world, from the Pacific N.W. all the way into the Florida heat. Made it thru the ''recession / depression'', gained many a scar on the way. But for you, those scars are like Merit Badges. Because you share your lineage with other hard working commercial vessels, made of alloy plate and perfect welds.

THIS P.B.R. IS FOR YOU!

More video coming soon about using pure 02 in my live wells.

But, in the interim I made a live well / oxygen bottle ''UNIT''.  No more trying to secure the bottle elsewhere. This set up will recirculate water, as well as just refresh, or not. All the while, adding pure oxygen into the water.

10/17 - Birthdays, Live Bait, and cold fronts....OH MY!

Well, tomorrow is the JETTYWOLF'S 11th Birthday!  Yes, around the Fish Camp we celebrate boat birthdays. Or at least recognize them.

When you have your boat built and delivered. It's a more personal thing than just buying a boat off some sales lot.  I followed the Build with photos from the Builder. Then, knew when it was put on a truck, and was heading my way.

The Jettywolf and I have been through a lot over the last 11 years. And I plan on another 11 more.

I've hear of this before. What do you think? (click on report title to open this report as a page, and you can comment below)

Had plans to fish today. And had a charter yesterday, too. But at 9pm last night, I knew I made the right call to reschedule till next week.

Yesterday:  1 of Lito's Redfish.  Finally a keeper -"eater"

Yep, at exactly 9pm last night the wind in my area started to blow hard. And here came today's BIG cold front.  I'd call this the first real one of the fall season.
Temp drops, huge winds, and rain.........WELCOME TO FALL.

I love it! Hopefully NO MORE high 80's days. And I know that's asking a lot. Because last year we never had a winter. And maybe even the year before. Because my Dad and I did some Big Time home renovation here at the Fish Camp two years ago in November (because we thought it might be cooler) but instead we sweat our asses off doing a few weeks of pure manual labor.

Here's today's Marine weather forecast for this week....Not Good!
LINK FOR FULL WKS MAYPORT FORECAST

A strong cold front will push well south of the coastal waters
today. Strong northeasterly winds will prevail today through
tonight with Small Craft Advisory conditions and occasional gale
force gusts expected on all area waters. Small craft advisories
will remain in place Wednesday and winds and seas will still
remain hazardous the rest of the week.

My next trip ""scheduled"" is Friday with some great kids.

10/11 - Charters are so cheap, compared to boat ownership

Well, I  know most people think fishing charters are expensive. And I hear this all the time, ''I'm thinking of getting a boat, what do you think of XYZ boats, Capt. Dave?'' From customers.

Let me enlighten you for a minute.

If you think you're in it for the long haul (boat ownership) which most are not!!
More boats do a lot of sitting around, than ever getting used. Just pay attention to a local boat yard, marina, or backyard....''near you'', and you'll see.

The novelty of boat ownership is one that wears out very, very fast.

-you need a tow vehicle
-it's a equipment 'heavy' activity
-add in fishing, and you just doubled the equipment ''heaviness''!
-storing a boat properly, means ''doubled the expense'', if you don't have room.
-everyone is now your friend. But all your new friends are ''broke''.
-most people can't enjoy boating, alone. They need people to go ''with'' them.
-it's like having a in the ground pool at home. Doesn't increase any value to your wealth.
- I could go on and on and on...

If you keep up with anything I do here on my reports blog, or via my Youtube channel, or Twitter writings. (I have no clue to who visits all these. I JUST DO IT! and hope for the best. )

I know my customers barely look at any information I give freely.

You'll know that before and since Hurricane Irma, all kinds of boat related things have happened to me.

-Suzuki water pump
-fuel water separator changeout
-leaking fuel tank
-all new trailer tires

as a few examples.

So, charters are expensive huh?

Yeah, well here's a short list of what I've spent to stay in business in the last 45 days:

(not to include; boat payment / insurance / fuel / oil  or NEW TOP ON THE BOAT!!!!)

$173.82
$25.52
$28.00
$765.07
$24.55
$78.00
$26.47
$49.00
$400.00
$18.00
$10.28
$27.80
$150.00
$435.00

YEAH, AND CHARTERS ARE DIRT CHEAP, IN MY BOOK!

OCT. FULL MOON HIGH TIDE 10/7/2017
WEEKS AFTER IRMA

AND THEY STILL WANT TO AGAIN, DREDGE THE RIVER 10' DEEPER?

10/9 - video from 10/6 Wes, captures monster FLOUNDER!

"JETTYWOLF LIVE" - 10/06/2017 fishing for Speckled Trout actually. Crew member Wes, of Mayport Florida fishes a "jig-n-shrimp" combo meal near some rocks and hooks up a monster ""door mat"" sized Flounder in the St. Johns River. Jacksonville, Florida while fishing aboard the Jettywolf, with Capt Dave's Sport Fishing charters.

It was the start of the October full ""harvest Moon"", certainly not ideal with the radically high tides. A full 2 feet higher tide than normal in N.E. Florida. After Hurricane Irma passed the river is looking like chocolate soup! And we just stopped by a spot to fish during the "Slack high tide", where Capt Dave's clients have caught back to back 7 pound Speckled Trout before.

Finished up the day with approx. 10-15 short Speckled Trout, another nice Flounder, a short Redfish, a Black Drum and two small Sheepshead, and a Jack Crevalle, all on lead-head Jigs and live shrimp.

10/8 - OCT. HARVEST MOON // Unfishable tides!

This weeks full moon is the worst of the year. The local high tides are 6 foot. And when all that water floods into the river on a rising tide......LOOK OUT,
when the tide starts to ebb and has to pour out in 6 hrs.

( I have never seen the river water this high at the Dames Point Bridge. That water is over the top of boulders that surround the bridge pilings, and creeping up over the sign!)

It could be the same scenario that will be  the new "every day", when they dredge the river another 10 feet and destroy it once again.

But of course, every year, people want to go fishing. And the fishing, physically anchoring, and trying to catch decent fish. Can be really tough. I have to search for the least of the flowing current areas. And many of those are the same ones we get kicked out of. Yes, there's many areas we can no longer fish.

Wes, got really lucky when he was out with me on Friday Oct. 6th. We were at the "old" Little Jetties area the tide was slack, he was pitching a jig & shrimp combo meal and got what he though was a Mangrove Snapper bite.

Well folks, this surely wasn't the usual little pesky Snapper!

A TRUE "DOOR MAT" at 11 POUNDS!
""VIDEO COMING""

We got lucky that day and fished the "US Navy Fish preservation zone", without being harassed for several hours, and also caught approx. 20 small Trout, two Sheepshead a small Redfish another Flounder, and a perfect sized Black Drum!  It's just a "cat & mouse game", because YES, that's where the fish are, and YES I'll play their game.

WHY CHARTER FISH??

PEOPLE SAY TO ME ALL THE TIME....''IF YOU WON THE LOTTO, I'D BET YOU'D HAVE A GIANT BOAT, bla, bla, bla''

MY ANSWER TO THEM IS ALWAYS THE SAME...''NOPE, I'D FISH ALL OVER THE WORLD, ON SOMEONE ELSE'S BOAT, SO I COULD ACTUALLY ENJOY MYSELF.''

10/3 - ''''REMINDER'''......'''FYI'''........''HEADS-UP'''

I PERSONALLY WON'T FISH MYSELF ON A WEEKEND, OR EVEN A FRIDAY.

I HAVE A SAYING, "there's nothing like a Monday morning at 7am"

GOTTA LOVE IT.

9/30 - Yesterday in the wind & rain...

Had one crew member yesterday, Ryan from OK.  The morning started off okay, but as the day went on it degraded quickly. With rain and high winds.

We went west, the water's still very fresh.  LOTS, of Croakers! Good sized ones too. Super fun, hard pullers on light tackle. Like smallmouth bass, for Ryan.

Had lots of Weakfish, aka: yellowmouth trout, not that many specks. We fished jigs and shrimp mostly. No, float-rig fishing, because the shrimp won't stay alive, on the hook.

One small pup redfish, no drum or flounders. But we caught fish, all day long.

The rain, came and went. Sometimes it really poured.

Towards the end of the day we came back to the ICW south, and saw birds going nuts. We casted VUDU mullet swimbaits into crashing fish schools and the hook-ups on Ladyfish were epic. Ryan, got to see a feeding frenzy. and we both even hooked up trout that were in the Ladyfish schools too.

Filled the cooler full of big Croakers and the  largest yellowmouths.

By the time we got back, the river was a soup sandwich, and the wind was nearly unfishable.

But, we had a great time.

BEFORE I COMPLAIN ABOUT THE MAYPORT BOAT RAMP ANY LONGER, I'LL ALWAYS HAVE TO REMEMBER WATCHING THIS:
